Sjøl designs was founded in 1999 with the idea of creating individually inspired design. After many years of schooling and working alongside amazing designers, Kirsten learned that interior design is very personalized. Our focus has and will always be on our clients. Every interior is as unique and original as the clients we work with.
Kirsten Shull graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design from the Design Institute of San Diego. In 1999, she took the NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) exam. The exam consists of 7 different sections that test your knowledge of building systems, codes, contract administration, construction standards, design application, professional practice, and project coordination. In 2007, she completed the Nevada State Board of Architecture exam.
what Sjøl means to me
The name Sjøl holds a lot of meaning to me because it is the Norwegian spelling of my last name. When my great-grandfather immigrated to the United States from Norway, he legally changed our last name from Sjøl to Shull.
My father adopted the original spelling of our last name for his business, Sjøl Architecture. He was an exterior designer and his specialty was integrating unique swirling brick patterns and waterfalls into his designs. We were very close, so to be able to connect my heritage and the story of our family name to my business brings me great pride and joy.
